Youth Support

Empowering Youth

The Facts:

  • At least 90% of substance use disorders begin between the ages of 12-20.
  • More youth now try prescription pain medication over marijuana as the first drug they use.
  • Because of their genetic vulnerability, children of addicted parents are at high risk of becoming addicted themselves.
  • Among 18 to 25 year-olds, the percentage meeting criteria for substance use disorder is 17.3%, which is more than twice the rate of the general population.
  • The opioid epidemic among young people has reached a crisis point.
  • Currently it takes 8 to 10 years after the onset of addiction for the addicted person to find help.

What other illness do we wait for it to get worse before we take action?
What options do young people in our community have for age-appropriate recovery support?

The Teen Group

Who: Teens ages 14-18
When: Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6:30 pm
Where: FAVOR Greenville Center, 355 Woodruff Road, Suite 303, Greenville, SC 29607

The Teen Group is a support group for teens who are affected by addiction, or who just want to lead a healthy, sober lifestyle. Participants will be guided through open discussion, lessons, and activities that are age-appropriate, relevant to today’s social scene, and designed to help teens understand and cope with the addiction and  recovery process – for themselves, a parent, friend, or loved one.

Teens are exposed to incredible pressure to try drugs and alcohol. The Teen Group provides a safe place for participants to support each other, realizing they are not alone in their desire to live a happy, successful, and drug-free life. Pizza is provided.

Please note: We follow Greenville County School District’s inclement weather policy.
